Environmental Initiatives

We fulfill our social mission of providing a stable supply of pharmaceuticals and recognize the significant impact that our business activities have on the global environment and biodiversity. In all aspects of our business activities, we strive to harmonize with the environment and actively work to reduce and conserve environmental impact. Through these efforts, we strive to continuously review and improve our targets, thereby contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.

Since December 2023, the Group has been gradually switching from fossil fuel electricity to renewable energy. Going forward, the Group will continue to introduce this system, mainly at distribution centers, which use large amounts of electricity.

At newly established sales offices within the pharmaceutical wholesaling business, the Group is actively promoting the introduction of equipment designed to reduce environmental impact. For instance, the Kensei Sales Office (Kanagawa), newly built in FY2024, is equipped with solar power systems and has achieved a 6-star rating—the highest evaluation possible— under the Building-housing Energy-efficiency Labeling System (BELS). Furthermore, at its existing locations, the Group strives to minimize its environmental impact by installing solar panels to generate energy, converting buildings into Net Zero Energy Buildings (ZEBs), and setting up EV charging stations.

By introducing a scheduled delivery system and a delivery management system, the Group is working to improve delivery efficiency with the aim of reducing mileage by 30% by FY2030. The Group is also promoting scheduled deliveries based on automatic ordering through the centralized administration system for pharmacy operations “MIZAR,” which enables it to deliver one to two times a week for some of our regular customers.

Logistics centers have many air conditioners and a lot of lighting equipment and use large material handling equipment and robots. This results in higher electricity consumption than other business offices. For this reason, the Group has introduced BEMS at its Logistics centers to manage the consumption.

The robots at TBC DynaBASE are operated also by utilizing off-peak electricity, and the head part, where the robot vacuums products, is a power-saving type that stops vacuuming when a certain amount of power is generated. The automatic warehouse is a regenerative energy type that is charged when the conveyor brakes. The system is also used at TBC Saitama and TBC Hiroshima.

The manufacturing facility of KYOSOMIRAI PHARMA has acquired ISO 14001:2015 certification, an international standard for environmental management systems, in order to continuously improve activities of energy conservation and waste reduction.

Pharmaceutical wholesaling, the Group’s core business, mainly distributes and sells pharmaceuticals. It has no direct impact on the natural environment through the collection and production of raw materials, and the risk of using chemical substances that adversely affect biodiversity and the discharge of waste is considered relatively low. However, the Group recognizes that it is important to accurately understand how its business depends on and affects the natural environment. In addition, sustainable resource procurement is needed throughout the supply chain, including production and logistics processes, and collaboration with suppliers and environmentally conscious decision-making must be strengthened. Therefore, the Group has positioned the conservation and restoration of biodiversity and the reduction of waste as a priority issue and is promoting initiatives to address it.

If a manufacturing and sales business operator violates GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), it must recall and dispose of the drug in question. At KYOSOMIRAI PHARMA, its major proposition is compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). On this basis, KYOSOMIRAI PHARMA forecasts market demand in cooperation with the Group's wholesale and dispensing pharmacy businesses so as not to generate waste products caused by excess production.
